The main goal of the National Sports Code is to establish a culture of openness and responsibility in the operations of national sports federations. Formerly known as the National Sports Development Code of India, its objective is to foster good governance practices in the administration of sports at the national level. The policies it sets forth do not conflict with or impede the autonomy of the national sports organizations.
The Sports Code is responsible for ensuring that the NSFs
carry out their duties in regulating sports and combatting issues such as
racism in sports, implementing anti-doping measures, preventing age fraud,
safeguarding athletes' rights, preventing child abuse and sexual harassment in
sports, promoting gender equality, and prohibiting betting and gambling in
sports.
Each year, National Sports Federations (NSFs) that comply
with the National Sports Code and have Constitutions that adhere to the guidelines
are eligible for various benefits and concessions provided by the Government of
India. Noncompliance with the Code results in the loss of the privilege to
select national teams and represent India in any international competition.
NSFs that fail to adhere to the Code are prohibited from using the term
"India" in their name, as exemplified by the All India Football
Federation. Failure to comply with the Sports Code's regulations will result in
the loss of the right to govern and manage the respective sport in the country.
Is your Federation recognized by the Government of India? Have you checked
the updated recognition letter mentioning the YEAR?
